A simple slideshow I made using images from the American television show Avatar: The Last Airbender and photographs and pictures of Asian culture, put side-by-side to compare. I own nothing in this video; I only brought it together. Avatar: The Last Airbender is currently being made into a live action trilogy of movies, directed by M. Night Shyamalan, called The Last Airbender. However, instead of reflecting the Asian influence by casting Asians in the roles, the leads were filled by unknown Noah Ringer, Twilight star Jackson Rathbourne, Nicola Peltz, and Jesse McCartney (later to be replaced by British-Indian Dev Patel). Now, instead of the pan-Asian fantasy world beloved by audiences, we now have an adaptation where the four main heroes will be played by Caucasians, and the villains by darker skinned actors (including Indian Dev Patel (Prince Zuko), Aasif Mandvi (Admiral Zhao), Iranian Shaun Toub (Uncle Iroh), and Maori Cliff Curtis (Fire Lord Ozai). Many fans and non-fans! alike are upset and outraged over the casting. Asian-American groups such as MANAA and the East West Players have also shown their disapproval.
